Science Week 2018
On the Wednesday the 14th of November two groups from 6th class attended the bridge building competition in the Mc William in Claremorris . A few weeks before the competition all of 6th class split into groups of four or five and built bridges to hold a certain amount of weights. Only the top two groups went through to compete in the competition in the Mc William.
On the day we arrived at 12 o’clock, we were greeted by other teams from Mayo in 6th class. After everybody had arrived each team was escorted to their table by a member of science week team. When we arrived at our table we were given 25 straws & approximately 1 metre of masking tape and some sweets!
We had 40 minutes to complete our bridges.  There was a variety of different designs. We learned that we had to hook a bag of rice to our bridge which we were not expecting. Our design was built to withhold weight on the top of it so it did not live up to our expectations. But overall we had a very educational experience at the competition.
