Our Class Outing to Turlough House

19/3/2017

Turlough house is located in Turlough, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Next to the museum is an old house that you can get a tour of. It has lovely gardens and a lovely river along the side of the museum. Our teachers organised for us to go and have a tour of the museum and see what people lived like all those years ago.

We travelled over there by bus and straight away we got to have a look around. We were given workbooks so that we could answer questions. We explored the interesting place. There were three floors and we had questions to answer for each floor.

We answered questions such as “How old is this chair?” and “What were their clothes made from?” We saw their old furniture and clothes. They made their furniture from reeds, straw, rushes and hay.

When we had finished that we had our lunch outside in a marquee. After lunch we went back inside and they brought us to another room in the building. They were going to teach us ways of writing exciting stories. They helped us pick the main characters and parts of the story. We wrote our own stories and they told us that they would publish them for us.

We thanked everyone for a lovely day and left for home.
