At school we were told there was an upcoming science event in the McWilliam in Claremorris. We had to make a paper tower with ten pieces of paper and a meter of masking tape, the tower had to be able to support a hardboiled egg for at least thirty seconds. There was a prize for the tallest tower that could support an egg and for the most decorative tower. At school, we had to get into groups of maximum four people. Then we made our own towers to see what two groups would get to go to the McWilliam to compete against other schools. At first, three towers drew in height at 65cm tall .Only two groups could proceed to the McWilliam so we had a tie breaker. After the tie breaker there was two groups who got to go to the McWilliam.
When the day came we went to the McWilliam on a bus and when we got out, there were already many schools there. We were brought into the room where the competition would take place. Each school got a sheet of paper saying there school name and if they were team one or team two. The competition started after they told us the rules. After forty-five minutes , two men came and tested everyone’s towers to see if they could support an egg. They tested some that were extremely tall and supported an egg for more than thirty seconds.
We didn’t win but it was a great experience, it makes us want to explore more parts of science and we hope that we will get invited back to more competitions in the future.
