Ballyhaunis bee keepers came to our school and taught us so much about honey bees. We were able to look at a busy hive and found the queen bee. The queen was much larger than the others and had been marked with a red dot, which makers her easier to see in the hive. The bee keepers also showed us a bee suit, wax candles and a smoker, which is sometimes used to calm the bees. We were told about the different jobs carried out by bees, how a new queen is chosen and that there are different types of honey, depending on the flowers and plants visited by bees. We would like to say a big thank you to the bee keepers!
