We love reading and we had great fun with 5th and 6th Class this week. 5th and 6th Class read some of our favourite stories to us. We even read them stories!

We had Show and Tell today. Some boys and girls told us about special toys and photographs. Two girls had their first pairs of shoes and another child had a poem written especially for her by her granddad. Other children had medals and trophies that they won for participating in horse shows and in a summer library programme. We enjoyed listening to each other and asking questions about what our friends had brought in to show the class.
We had so much fun with 5th and 6th Class. They organised a Mini Sports day and treasure hunt for our class. We really enjoyed ourselves. Take a look at our photos! Ballyhaunis bee keepers came to our school and taught us so much about honey bees. We were able to look at a busy hive and found the queen bee. The queen was much larger than the others and had been marked with a red dot, which makers her easier to see in the hive. The bee keepers also showed us a bee suit, wax candles and a smoker, which is sometimes used to calm the bees. We were told about the different jobs carried out by bees, how a new queen is chosen and that there are different types of honey, depending on the flowers and plants visited by bees. We would like to say a big thank you to the bee keepers!
