Art in April..
We looked at some modern art in particular the work of Paul Klee and tried our own version of his Cat and Bird picture. Here are some examples of our work.

We also drew and coloured some landscape pictures. We tried to include some perspective in our work.

Our Nature Walk - April 2015
We were very lucky in our class to be invited over to our neighbour Thomas Morley's home on a nature walk. They have a large, beautiful, mature garden full of over 28 different types of trees and a variety of flowers. We brought our sunhats and lunches over one fine day in April to explore! Thomas's dad Richard is very knowledgeable on all aspects of nature and guided us through the garden identifying different trees and their fruits along the way. He showed us how to count the rings on a tree stump to tell how old a tree is and even showed us on the stump how the width of the rings can indicate good and bad weather in the life of the tree! We enjoyed a picnic outside and after biscuits and drinks we finished our visit with a game of football. A great day was had by all!

Literacy Lift Off in Second Class
We introduced the 'Literacy Lift Off' programme in our class after Easter. This is a literacy programme that includes reading, comprehension, phonics and computer work based on a core set of readers. We have been really enjoying the variety of literacy activities that the programme involves. In particular the children really enjoy working at the different literacy stations during the 'Lift Off' time.

Visit of the Rose of Tralee
We are very excited about the upcoming visit of the Rose of Tralee to our school in February. We created some cards to welcome her and have been practising a song to sing to her with third and fourth class. We hope to share some pictures of her visit after the big day!
