We were privileged to welcome an Olympic gold medal to our school today. The medal was won by the great Martin Sheridan in the 1908 Olympic Games. He was born in Bohola in County Mayo in 1881 and later emigrated to the United States. He represented the USA in the Olympics in 1904 in St. Louis and again in London in 1908. He won gold medals for the discus and shot put events as well as the standing long jump. In total, he won 5 Olympic gold medals. We were all delighted to investigate and relive a little bit of history.
