Blue Star experience from a child's point of view.

This year 4th and 5th Class in Bekan N.S. took part in the ‘Blue Star Programme’. The project was based on Europe and the European Union. As a class, we researched information on the school’s laptops about different E.U. countries and one group even did a project on Brexit.
Mr. O’ Gara divided us into different groups. We discussed ideas for our own group projects. Norbert, Tom and I were in the same group and we decided we would do a project on France.
We all worked really hard researching for our PowerPoint projects. We did lots of work each day. I really enjoyed it. We listened to many of the National Anthems of E.U. countries. They varied quite a lot. We listened out for all the different instruments that were used.
In April we held the ‘Blue Star Basketball Super League’. Five teams took part: Poland, Sweden, Greece, Italy and Bulgaria. Poland won the league. It was great fun. Orla won the award for ‘Score of the Tournament.
On April 13th, Lisa Chambers, T.D., visited our school. She spoke to us about how laws are made in the E.U. We played ‘Ode to Joy’ for her and we got the chance to present one of our PowerPoints. It was a great day!
My favourite part of the programme was doing our projects on the laptops. We learned about lots of different things. I never knew that the baguette is a popular French food. I really enjoyed this opportunity and I’d recommend it to other schools. I’d give it 10 out of 10!
